Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS brand might have a holiday-season headache on its hands. Its latest festive offering, a $148 Accessories Advent Calendar, has become the subject of a seriously brutal internet roast after a TikTok unboxing video sent viewers into disbelief.

And honestly? The comments section might be more entertaining than the actual presents.

The viral video, posted by TikTok creator @wetsloppyswollen, has attracted more than 34 million views, with thousands of viewers weighing in on whether SKIMS has gone a little too far with its luxury holiday pricing.

The 12-day calendar promises a festive collection of accessories, but the creator’s increasingly unimpressed reactions to the daily surprises have turned the unboxing into an internet spectacle.

Among the items revealed were scrunchies, bra straps, keychains, hair clips, a comb and even a foam squishy.

For a product carrying a $148 price tag, viewers were clearly expecting something a little more exciting.

A $148 Advent Calendar With Some Very Small Surprises

Advent calendars are supposed to make the countdown to Christmas exciting. SKIMS apparently decided that twelve opportunities to discover another hair accessory would do the trick.

The Accessories Advent Calendar contains 12 individual surprises, with the collection focusing on smaller everyday accessories rather than clothing or the brand’s signature shapewear.

According to SKIMS’ product description, customers can expect a selection of hair accessories, keychains and other playful everyday items, all packaged inside a festive holiday box.

So, technically, the brand did tell shoppers what general category of products they were purchasing.

The problem appears to be the perceived value.

At $148, the calendar works out to approximately $12.33 per compartment. That’s a fairly ambitious price for a collection featuring items that some viewers believe could easily be picked up for considerably less elsewhere.

And the internet was not particularly interested in keeping its opinions to itself.

TikTok Turns the SKIMS Calendar Into a Comedy Show

Once the unboxing started circulating, commenters wasted absolutely no time turning the product into a punchline.

One viewer questioned the overall value of the collection, writing:

“$150 is WILD for maaaaybe $20 worth of stuff.”

Another compared the accessories to inexpensive products available from TEMU, while someone else suggested that the creator had effectively purchased a box of things people normally throw away.

But two comments really stole the spotlight.

One person described the calendar as a “box full of pranks”, while another joked that the contents looked like “everything that falls between my car seats”.

Both comments reportedly attracted more than one million likes.

Another viewer delivered an equally savage assessment, writing that the collection looked like everything they had recently thrown away while decluttering their nightstand.

Ouch.

The reaction has turned what was supposed to be a festive product showcase into a rather entertaining discussion about luxury branding, consumer expectations and how much people are actually willing to pay for a branded scrunchie.

Some Viewers Think the Creator Deserves a Thank-You

Interestingly, not everyone focused their attention on the creator’s disappointment.

Several commenters actually praised her for purchasing the calendar and showing its contents before other shoppers spent their money.

One viewer wrote:

“They played in your face girl but you just saved so many people money.”

It’s a sentiment that captures much of the online reaction. People weren’t necessarily angry about the idea of a SKIMS accessories collection. They were questioning whether the assortment justified the premium price.

And there’s an important distinction.

SKIMS markets the product as an accessories advent calendar, not a 12-day collection of full-sized clothing or shapewear. Its product description also identifies the general types of surprises shoppers can expect.

However, knowing that a calendar contains accessories and feeling satisfied with what those accessories are worth are two very different things.

Is SKIMS Having a Holiday Marketing Disaster?

The backlash highlights a familiar problem for celebrity-backed luxury brands: customers aren’t just paying for the products themselves. They’re also paying for the branding, presentation and perceived exclusivity.

For devoted SKIMS fans, a collection of branded accessories might be an appealing holiday treat.

For shoppers expecting $148 worth of substantial surprises, however, the experience might feel considerably less magical.

The calendar has certainly achieved one thing: people are talking about it. Whether all that attention translates into additional sales is another question entirely.

For now, Kim Kardashian’s latest holiday release has found itself at the centre of one of TikTok’s funniest shopping debates of the season.

And if there’s one lesson here, it’s that when you’re charging $148 for an Advent calendar, you might want to make sure day 12 delivers something spectacular.

Otherwise, the internet will happily supply the entertainment for free.
